CLE: Ethics for Billing & Avoiding Malpractice
October 20 @ 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm$50
3 hours CLE Ethics credits
This CLE will be divided into two segments: (1) Habits That Help Avoid Legal Malpractice Claims; and (2) Ethics in Billing & Attorneys’ Fees.
Habits That Help Avoid Legal Malpractice Claims – Properly established and efficient practice management processes and procedures can pay big dividends in protecting against malpractice claims and ethics complaints. Bulletproofing your practice in these small ways allows you to concentrate on your clients rather than the day-to-day operation of your firm.
And while every lawyer wants effective systems, too often, the hardest part is developing a strategy of review and implementation for the law office operation. This program is for every lawyer who wants a road map for reaching a better practice. Presenter Christian Stiegemeyer is Director of Risk Management for the Bar Plan.
Ethics in Billing & Attorneys’ Fees – In this section, presenter Winston Evans will focus on good billing habits, including recent decisions in Tennessee on fees and discussions on issues like “mark-ups” for out-of-pocket expenses, upfront retainer fees, and timely billing for services. Evans is an attorney and founding member of Evans, Jones & Reynolds.
